Artist statement and explanation of bodies of work
Improvisational and Compositional works
I am interested in painting as a way to make a poetic statement based on the visual attributes of: shapes, colors, and pictorial relationships. Some of the images are done freely on canvas resulting in a jazz like structure. I call these images Improvisational. Other works utilize preliminary and intermediate studies. I call those works Compositional.
The resulting works are landscape based with roots in twentieth century abstraction. At times they include the human figure. I believe those works constitute a branch style.
In my search each style seems to inform the other, leading to an ongoing investigation.
